The Golden Girls Bar Crawl: A Fun Leo Birthday Celebration
I don’t know if you’re into zodiac signs, but I’m a Leo — and if there’s one thing about us, it’s that we are going to celebrate our birthdays. Sometimes it’s big, sometimes it’s small, but we don’t let the day pass without joy. Lately, I’ve been in a more intentional and joyous season. Life has been “life-ing,” I’ve lost people along the way, and I’ve realized that the best way to honor them — and to honor God’s blessing of breath — is to celebrate my life fully.
This year marked my 41st birthday. Last year, my 40th was a whole production: a surprise party, a movie night, a big weekend of love. At first, I thought I’d keep it simple this year. But if you know my friends, you know they weren’t going to let me just sit this one out. Secretly, I think they look forward to my birthdays because I always find something a little out of the box — a theme, a vibe, something fun that shakes up the usual routine.
The Golden Girls Bar Crawl

This year, I decided to bring to life a trend I’ve been seeing all over social media — the Golden Girls Bar Crawl. Women dress up like old ladies, gray wigs and all, and hit the town turning up like senior citizens who still got it. So I told my crew, “We’re about to be the Old Lady Gang.” And just like that, they were in.
That’s the thing I love about my friends: whatever I dream up, they’re down. And we had the best time. Walking into each spot as “grandmas on the loose” gave us permission to laugh at ourselves, let go, and just enjoy being silly together.

The Auntie Era
The truth is, we’re at that age — the new auntie era. We’ve lived, we’ve loved, we’ve raised kids, we’ve faced health scares, job stress, heartbreak, divorce, widowhood, financial strain… all of it. Sometimes you don’t feel your most beautiful or your most confident. But this weekend reminded me that we are still here — still fun, still vibrant, still worthy of joy.
The Baddie Switch-Up

I didn’t want the weekend to end on just the “old lady” note, though. Because yes, we can laugh at ourselves, but we’re not done yet. So the next day, I flipped the script. We went out for dinner, karaoke, and live music — not as Golden Girls, but as baddies. And my friends poured so much love into me that night. We laughed, we sang, we vibed, and I felt like the most celebrated version of myself.
Closing It Out with Intention
On the third day, a smaller circle came together at my place. Food, drinks, laughter, dancing, reminiscing. But more than that, we set intentions. We looked at where we’ve been, and we spoke into where we’re going. It was the perfect close to a weekend of celebration.
41 & Beyond
Every birthday is special to me because every birthday is a guarantee — and not everyone gets that gift. In these 41 years, I’ve learned about love, healing, boundaries, family, friendship, and myself. I’ve learned that joy is resistance. Celebration is healing. And sisterhood is sacred.

If the past year was any sign, the year ahead is going to be just as full of lessons, blessings, and laughter. And I’m ready.
